The 2002 Operator of the Year is Judi Fisher
Judi was born in Vienna, Austria where her father worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. At a young age, her family moved to the Seattle area and she grew up in Bellevue attending Bellevue and Newport High Schools. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in French and a Masters Degree in Romance Linguistics.
She was trained to be a teacher, but there were no teaching jobs available in 1974. So it was in April of that year that she began her career as a full-time Metro Transit Operator.
She has earned a 16-year Safe Driving Award and has received 13 commendations. She has served as a union shop steward and was instrumental in getting the membership the right to hold shop steward elections.
Here are just a few of the things her customers have said about her over the years:
Caller on his bike said "she was very nice about sharing the road."
" ...great with the kids. Driver has a very caring nature and had a significant impact on the kids."
"The bus driver was wonderful...she is consistently gracious and considerate."
"I work with a group of developmentally disabled kids and Judi was always gracious and patient with them."
"She drives well and is extremely courteous."
Judi belongs to a book club and loves to travel, garden, and relax on her boat. She has also been involved in recreational jazz dancing for over 20 years.
In October 2002 Judi was selected Operator of the Month at North Base. This was her second such award. Judi was voted Operator of the Year in balloting by all the Operators of the Month for 2002.
Operator Fisher is highly regarded and appreciated for her exemplary work over the years and is a fine representative of King County Metro Transit.
