The 2008 Operator of the Year Ineke DeBoer

photo of Ineke DeBoer

Originally from Holland, Ineke moved to the Pacific Northwest where her husband was an antique dealer. Widowed at an early age, she worked as a translator and coordinator for Martinair Airlines before joining Metro in May 1979.

Ineke has earned a 29-year Safe Driving Award and has only one minor accident in her 30-year career. Her customers offered many comments: "The bus driver is awesome courteous and a safe, careful driver quite the professional. Metro is lucky to have her." In 2001 a customer boarding at the same time the earthquake struck thanked Ineke for handling the situation well and helping to calm the passengers.

Inekes devotion to service extends beyond Metro to her commitment to the Big Sisters program where she was awarded "Big Sister of the Year" in 2002. Her hobbies include an array of outdoor activities spent with her husband, Operator Richard Jensen. Spending time with their combined families, the kids and grandkids is always a priority.

Ineke was selected as Operator of the Month two times in her career, most recently in June 2008 at North Base. Ineke was selected Operator of the Year in balloting by all the Operators of the Month for 2008.
