The 2004 Operator of the Year is David Alexander
Born on St. Patricks Day in 1942, David has spent most of his life in Seattle. He attended Chief Sealth High School in West Seattle. After graduating he joined the Marine Corps for three years where he was stationed in Japan. David joined Metro in June 1978 after working at U.P.S.
He met his future wife Nancy as a passenger on his University District bus. They married on St. Patricks Day in 1985. They say it makes birthdays and anniversaries easier to remember.
David enjoys living in the Pacific Northwest because of the great outdoors and the proximity of his family. His two brothers, John and Paul, both live and work in the area. Paul is a Metro Transit Planner. David enjoys helping everyone around him and recently assisted his brother John in finishing his house in Ravensdale.
When David and Nancy have time off, they enjoy hunting near Mt. Baker, fishing on the Olympic Peninsula and camping at Lake Wooten or Haven Lake. They love their 25-foot luxury camper trailer which has "all the comforts of home" including a deluxe kitchen for extended trips in style. They enjoy taking long vacations all over the western United States, Texas and Canada.
David has 25 years of safe driving. He has earned hundreds of commendations from passengers and co-workers, who cite his patient and helpful attitude when assisting customers, his smooth driving and for calling stops in a consistent and clear manner. He sets an example of outstanding service.
He was selected Operator of the Month in February 1999. In November 2004 he was selected again as Operator of the Month for Central Base. David was selected Operator of the Year in balloting by all the Operators of the Month for 2004.
