Five Questions
She wears the mountain path to granite.
Esses of red-shouldered hawks in the sky,
switchback carved into rock.
No more than a dusting
field turned white, creek lazy and dark.
Before she was conceived
her eyes held timberline,
now she runs like water beneath the moss.
