Self-Portrait

I'm no Red Riding Hood, lost in the woods,
More gap-toothed and leaping, evergreen
To evergreen, more hermit than hobbit, dread-headed
And high cheek-boned; call me La Negra, La Luz;
That wolf won't get the jump on me. This canopy
My salvation; a gap-toothed girl not lost, but living.
