The Summer I Turn 12
I sit in the dark on a lawn chair in my Godparent's back yard.
Sprinklers whir. Sue-Sue and Folly, our old beagles,
chase each other in wide, cool circles. I stare into the valley
beyond the swing set: tumbleweed, rabbit, and coyote.
An entire horizon faceted with stars.
