The Cartographer
I chose salt water. Mountains.
Turned my back
to the Midwest's cold and snow.
I'm learning a new geography of the moth-
Sammamish, Snoqualmie, Chehalis-
destinations smooth on my tongue
as the Sound sliding away from shore.
I don't care about latitudes,
As if knowing the mileage between us would make sense.
The past few months are old mountain ranges worn smooth.
I know where I've been, where you are.
I'll create a legend
in case you want to follow.
