The Shoeshiner

Between the shoeshiner's chestnut fingers
and my down-at-the-heels interview shoes,
an incarnation blooms
each time he waxes with rag or eyes,
each time our small talk goes inward. . .
His time is my time is our time
disappearing into the leather's old shine. . .
