From The Picture Window

I can still see my father
filling the birdfeeders in the front yard
using a white plastic scoop for millet, black
sunflower seeds, the wind buffeting chickadees
in bare branches of the sassafras.
He is wearing his worn red cap. The snow is blowing at an angle,
sticking to his salt-n-pepper face stubble,
filling in the footprints from the side door.

I like to take advantage of the mild Northwest climate to garden, boardsail, and observe critters year around. Gary A. Winans
