  • Introduction

Every day, changes occur to King County roads, businesses and communities that affect our transportation network. That’s why Metro Transit makes revisions to its bus service three times each year. We want to make the transit system as efficient as possible, improve the speed and convenience of your bus trips, and deliver service you can rely on.

This Special Rider Alert summarizes service revisions that begin in mid-June. Please check your route's new green timetable for more details.

Take your pick of travel modes: bus, train, VanPool, VanShare, Rideshare, Access vans for eligible riders, carpool, Zipcar, bike-and-ride and more. Name the place where you want to go - work, home or play - and choose your time. You’ll find that Metro has a solution for you.

At Metro, we’re working hard to give you easy access to the places you want to go, while helping you save money, control stress and protect the environment. So when we say, “We’ll Get You There,” we mean it!

If you have questions or need help planning your trip, call Metro Customer Information at 206-553-3000 (TTY Relay: 711) or visit our Trip Planner.

  • Service Change Highlights
    • Long-term reroutes during 1st Ave S/Spokane St Viaduct construction: routes 21, 22, 35, 56, 57, 85 Night Owl, 116, 118, 119

In May, the westbound on-ramp from 1st Ave S to the Spokane Street Viaduct was closed for construction. A new on-ramp is scheduled to open in fall 2011. The closure is affecting Route 21 to Arbor Heights, Route 22 to White Center, Route 35 to Harbor Island, Route 56 to Alki, Route 57 to the Alaska Junction, Route 85 Night Owl to White Center, Route 116 to Fauntleroy and routes 118 and 119 to Vashon Island. They were rerouted from 1st Ave S in SODO to SW Spokane St in West Seattle via S Hanford St, East Marginal Way S and the lower level of the West Seattle Bridge.

    • Long-term reroute during NE 45th St Viaduct construction: Route 25

From Monday, June 14, to Friday, Sept 10, the NE 45th St Viaduct will be closed in both directions between 20th Ave NE and Montlake Blvd NE. This project includes the replacement of the west approach span and a seismic retrofit of the main and east approach spans.

During the closure, Route 25 to downtown Seattle will be rerouted through the UW campus via Pend Oreille Rd and Stevens Way (southbound) to 15th Ave NE and the regular route. To Laurelhurst, it will also be rerouted through the UW campus via Stevens Way (northbound), Pend Oreille Rd and Montlake Blvd NE to NE 45th St and the regular route.

    • Renumbered of routes 291, 915, 921, 929 and 941

On Saturday, June 12, the following routes will be renumbered. The routing and schedule for these routes are unaffected by the route number change and will remain the same.

      Route 291 becomes Route 930 (Redmond-Kingsgate park-and-ride)
      Route 915 becomes Route 186 (Enumclaw-Auburn)
      Route 921 becomes Route 246 (Factoria-Somerset-Bellevue)
      Route 929 becomes Route 224 (Fall City-Redmond)
Route 941 becomes Route 193 (Star Lake park-and-ride-First Hill)

Metro’s system of route numbering includes the 100-199 series for south county service, 200-299 for east county service, 900-939 for DART service and 950-999 for Custom Bus service. These five routes were originally numbered within the proper series, but as service changed, the old numbers were retained, contributing to some confusion. The new route numbers will more accurately reflect the primary function of the service provided.

    • June 30: Revised service in South Park: routes 60, 131, 134

On Wednesday, June 30, the South Park Bridge will be permanently closed due to severe deterioration of the aging drawbridge. The bridge, which opened in 1931, connects the Georgetown and South Park neighborhoods via 14th Ave S and 16th Ave S over the Duwamish Waterway.

When the bridge closes, routes 60, 131 and 134 will be revised to operate in South Park via S Cloverdale St, 14th Ave S, SR-99 and the 1st Ave S Bridge. Two bus stops on 14th Ave S between S Cloverdale St and SR-99 will be served by routes 60, 131 and 134 in addition to Route 132. Two existing stops on 14th Ave S between S Cloverdale St and the South Park Bridge will be closed. In Georgetown, routes 60, 131 and 134 will be rerouted from the 1st Ave S Bridge via East Marginal Way S to Carleton Ave S (northbound) and Ellis Ave S (southbound). Routing through Georgetown will not change.

Because of these reroutes, delays can be expected on routes 60, 131 and 134 traveling south of South Park. Passengers should plan ahead and allow additional travel time when using these routes.
