Fremont Bridge Construction and Changes in Bus Routes

Starting Monday, May 22, 2006, buses will no longer travel over the Fremont Bridge, and only Route 31 will serve downtown Fremont because of construction. Metro routes that normally go through Fremont will operate on different streets and over the Aurora and Ballard bridges for up to a year during this construction period.

This construction is part of the Fremont Bridge Approach Replacement Project by the City of Seattle. During this phase, the Fremont Bridge will be partially closed to traffic, with only one lane open in each direction. Buses and trucks will be prohibited from using the bridge during this phase.

Riders wishing to travel to downtown Fremont will be able to use Route 31 or walk from bus stops on N. 39th St., Fremont Way N., or Bridge Way N. Riders who board or exit buses in neighborhoods both north and south of the Fremont Bridge will be affected; see maps and descriptions below.

Route 31 riders traveling to and from Seattle Pacific University will be able to transfer to and from Route 17 at the north end of the Ballard Bridge at 15th Ave. N.W. & N.W. Leary Way. Route 31 will not serve Nickerson St. or Seattle Pacific University during construction.
