Metro Transit Special Rider Alert, June 2004
Eastgate Park & Ride garage opens

Contents

About the garage

A new five-story parking garage will open on Saturday, June 5. The 1,700 parking spaces will provide parking for bus riders, carpoolers and vanpoolers along I-90 in Bellevue. The garage is situated on the same site as the former Eastgate Park-and-Ride lot, which was constructed in 1978. The garage is a reflection of the significant growth on the Eastside and demand for increased transit service along the I-90 corridor.

The new garage has two vehicle entrances on SE 32nd St. The northwest entrance provides access to the 1st floor and the north entrance provides access to the 3rd floor of the garage (see garage map below). The SE Eastgate Way entrance provides access to the 2nd floor. A new traffic light has also been installed at the SE Eastgate Way entrance. The new garage will have open stairways, glass-walled elevators and bright lighting.

Other amenities will include:

  • bike lockers
  • wider sidewalks
  • improved accessibility for riders with disabilities
  • a 400-foot covered bus shelter canopy
  • three charging vehicle stations for electric cars
  • artwork and landscaping
  • pay phones

Tips for using the garage

The Eastgate P&R garage is owned by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and maintained by Metro Transit. Garage rules will be posted at all vehicle entrances and customer walkways. The height limit in the garage is seven feet. Any vehicles over this cannot use the garage and must use a surface parking space on the east or west side within the park & ride garage.

The drive lanes inside the garage are for two-way traffic. When the lower level is full, you’ll need to drive up to another level. Once you have found a parking space, be sure and note the floor, so you can easily find your vehicle upon your return.

There will be two designated customer drop-off areas on the east and west sides of the bus platform. Please look for the customer drop-off signs. Do not enter the bus-only areas or otherwise impede bus traffic.

Accessible spaces for persons with disability parking permits will be available on the 1st floor of the garage at the south end (use either entrance) or in the surface lot on the east side (enter from SE Eastgate Way. Due to a garage height restrictions of 7 feet, vans with raised roofs must use the surface lot.

Those destined for Bellevue Community College (BCC) or nearby sites are welcome to use the garage's 142nd Ave SE pedestrian overpass. However, parking at the Eastgate Park & Ride is for the exclusive use of Metro customers. Violators will be towed.

In the future, a security system will be installed. Until the system is operating, security guards will monitor the facility.
