Metro to increase bus stop spacing for Route 75 and 18

Metro is planning to reduce the number of closely spaced bus stops on the Route 75 corridor, which includes Route 18 on 24th Ave NW as well as other routes. This change will help buses move faster and operate on a more reliable schedule, reduce energy consumption and emissions, and reduce Metro’s operating and maintenance costs.

Currently, the corridor has 168 bus stops between Pend Oreille Rd and NW Market St, with an average stop spacing of about 980 feet. The plan will remove 27 of these stops, increasing the average spacing between stops to about 1,170 feet.

As a result of this change, approximately 5% of Route 75 riders who board on the corridor between Pend Oreille Rd and NW Market St will have to catch their bus at a different stop. When the project is completed, transit riders should have a faster, more reliable trip.
