Route 8 stop-spacing project

Metro is planning to reduce the number of closely spaced bus stops on the Route 8 corridor. This change will help buses move faster and operate on a more reliable schedule, cut fuel consumption and emissions, and reduce Metro’s operating and maintenance costs.

The Route 8 corridor currently has about 70 stops each direction between Seattle Center and Rainier Beach, with an average stop spacing of about 940 feet. Metro will be removing 15 bus stops in May 2010 and three in 2011, increasing the average stop spacing to about 1,080 feet.

As a result of this change approximately 6 percent of riders will have to catch their bus at a different stop. When the project is completed, all riders should have a faster, more reliable trip.
