Metro service changes adopted by the King County Council

Changes will begin Saturday, Sept. 19 unless otherwise noted

Route

7 Local

No change to local service

This summer, Metro will ask the community for input on a plan to change the spacing of bus stops for Route 7. Watch for information at Route 7 bus stops and see the information on Metro Online.

7 Express

  • Reduce the level of service from eight trips to five in the morning and from nine trips to five in the afternoon.
  • Adjust the Route 34 schedule to coordinate with Route 7 Express.

8

  • Extend this Route to travel along Martin Luther King Jr. Way S between Mount Baker and Rainier Beach, replacing routes 42, 42 Express and 48 along Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. (Route 42 local will continue to provide service on part of the route.)
  • Provide service every 15 minutes during weekday peak hours and every 30 minutes at other times from Capitol Hill to Rainier Beach until approximately 1 a.m. on weekdays and until 11:30 p.m. on weekends.

A service partnership between Metro and the City of Seattle is supporting increased service on routes 8 and 48.

Additional change in February 2010

Improve service frequency to every 15 minutes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays between Seattle Center, Capitol Hill and Rainier Beach.

9 Express

End at the Rainier Beach light rail station instead of Rainier Avenue S and S Henderson Street.

Additional change in February 2010

Improve service to every 30 minutes during midday hours.

  • Revise routing to operate between downtown Seattle and the Mount Baker neighborhood via the Mount Baker Transit Center until approximately 11 p.m., and between downtown Seattle and the Mount Baker Transit Center until approximately 1 a.m.
  • Continue to serve Mount Rainier Drive S to S Hanford Street.

  • Discontinue Route 32.
  • Replace service between Rainier Beach and Beacon Avenue S/S Myrtle Street with revised Route 106.

34 Express

  • Reduce the level of service from four trips to three in both the morning and the afternoon.
  • Adjust the schedule to coordinate with Route 7 Express trip times.

  • Revise routing so that all trips end at 38th Avenue S and S Myrtle Street, near the Othello light rail station.
  • Replace service between Rainier Beach and Beacon Avenue S/S Myrtle Street with revised Route 106.
  • Discontinue evening and Sunday service to the main entrance of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (the Route will continue to operate during these times but will stop on Beacon Avenue S).

Additional change in February 2010

Improve Saturday service from every 15 minutes to every 10 minutes between approximately 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

  • Revise routing to operate between the Beacon Hill light rail station and the Mount Baker Transit Center.
  • Discontinue service between Beacon Hill and SODO, and revise routing to serve the Mount Baker Transit Center instead of S Bayview Street.
  • Increase service frequency to every 20-30 minutes Monday-Saturday between approximately 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Discontinue service all day on Sundays and before 8:30 a.m. and after 4 p.m. on other days.

  • Revise routing to end at 38th Avenue S and S Myrtle Street, near the Othello light rail station, instead of at Rainier Avenue S / S Henderson Street.
  • Provide service every 30 minutes during weekday peak hours, and every 45 minutes during midday and evening hours and on Saturdays until approximately 9 p.m.
  • Improve Sunday service frequency to every 45 minutes instead of every 60 minutes until approximately 9 p.m.

42 Local

  • Revise and shorten this Route to operate between Pioneer Square (Third Avenue S / S Main Street) and Columbia City (36th Avenue S / S Oregon Street).
  • Provide service every 60 minutes from approximately 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday.

42 Express

Discontinue Route 42 Express. Revised Route 8 will provide replacement service between the Mount Baker Transit Center and the Rainier Beach light rail station along Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. Revised Route 107 will provide replacement service between the Rainier Beach light rail station and Rainier View.

48

  • Discontinue service between the Mount Baker Transit Center and Rainier Beach, and replace with revised Route 8 (will not include the Columbia City loop).
  • Revise routing to operate between Loyal Heights and the Mount Baker Transit Center.
  • Improve weekday evening frequency from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes between 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
  • Add trips to accommodate students.

60

Add two earlier-morning trips that will arrive on Capitol Hill before 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., respectively, on weekdays.

Improve weekday peak-period frequency from every 30 minutes to every 15-20 minutes.

  • Revise routing to operate via S Henderson Street, the Rainier Beach light rail station, Carkeek Drive S, Beacon Avenue S, S Myrtle Street, Swift Avenue S and Airport Way S in Georgetown, replacing portions of routes 32 and 36.
  • Improve weekday peak frequency northbound in the morning and southbound in the afternoon from every 20-30 minutes to every 15 minutes.
  • Replace service along S Othello Street with revised Route 36 and revised Route 39.
  • Discontinue service on Rainier Avenue S between S Henderson Street and S Othello Street.

  • Revise routing to serve Skyway and Rainier View via 74th Avenue S, Renton Avenue S, 68th Avenue S, the S Avon Street / Beacon Avenue S loop currently served by Route 42, 51st Avenue S, and Renton Avenue S between 51st Avenue SW and S Henderson Street.
  • No longer operate between Cornell Avenue S / S 114th Street and Rainier Avenue S / Seward Park Avenue S.
  • Serve Rainier Beach light rail station and terminate at Rainier Avenue S / S Henderson Street in Rainier Beach.
  • Improve service frequency in the afternoon peak period to every 15-30 minutes; provide evening and weekend service every 30-60 minutes.

  • Discontinue Route 194.
  • Replace service between downtown Seattle and Sea-Tac International Airport with Link light rail.
  • Replace service between downtown Seattle and Federal Way with expanded service on Sound Transit routes 577 and 578.
