Rainier Beach – Rainier View – Skyway – West Hill
Affected Routes: 7, 7 Express, 42, 42 Express, 106, 107, 126
Table of Contents
Purpose
- Provide service connecting Rainier Beach, Rainier View, Skyway and West Hill to Rainier Beach Link station.
- Provide east-west connections between Rainier View, Skyway, Rainier View and Renton.
Proposed changes
Route 7
- No changes to Route 7 south of Rainier Beach. (See changes to Route 7 north of Rainier Beach.)
Route 7 Express
- Provide five morning and five afternoon peak-period trips, rather than the current levels of eight morning peak-period trips and nine afternoon peak-period trips.
Routes 42 and 42 Express
- Replace these routes north of S Henderson Street with extended Route 8 (see the details).
Route 106
- Revise this route to connect to Rainier Beach Link station by way of S Henderson Street. (See additional information about proposed changes to Route 106.)
- Improve peak frequency to every 15 minutes in the peak direction (to Seattle in the morning and from Seattle in the afternoon).
- Add late-night service departing downtown Seattle at 1:15 a.m. and 2:15 a.m.
Route 107
- Revise routing to serve north Skyway, Rainier View and the Rainier Beach Link station.
- Revise routing in the Lakeridge neighborhood to serve the neighborhood more fully.
- Improve afternoon peak frequency to every 15 minutes.
- Improve evening and weekend frequency to every 30 minutes.
Route 126
- Discontinue this route. Link light rail and Route 140 would provide replacement service between Rainier Beach and Southcenter.
Route 126 changes are described in more detail in a newsletter for Southwest King County.
Advantages
Route 106
- The Skyway neighborhood would be connected to the nearest Link station—Rainier Beach Station.
- There would be more late-night frequent service in the peak periods and late night hours.
Route 107
- The Rainier View neighborhood would be connected to the nearest Link station—Rainier Beach Station.
- Residents of Rainier View would be able to travel south to Renton and south King County without transferring in Rainier Beach.
- Residents of West Hill would be able to travel west to Skyway and Rainier View.
- The revised routing along S Lakeridge Drive would better serve the Lakeridge neighborhood.
- More frequent service would be provided in the afternoon peak period, in the evenings, and on weekends.
- The revised route would serve more people than the current Route 107, making it a stronger candidate for future service improvements.
Disadvantages
Routes 42 and 42 Express
- Current riders from Rainier View would have to transfer for travel to and from downtown Seattle or to destinations along Martin Luther King Jr. Way S.
Route 107
- Riders along Rainier Ave S east of 57th Avenue S and a small portion of Cornell Ave S would no longer have bus service.
- West Hill riders would have a slightly longer trip to reach Rainier Beach.
