Atlantic Base wins transit safety award
Congratulations to King County Metro's Atlantic Base employees for posting the best rate of collision reductions for 2004.
The annual safety award evaluates any collision - no matter how minor - between buses and fixed objects and other vehicles. Atlantic Base reduced its accident frequency by 15.2 percent over the previous year, and East Base followed a close second with a 15.0 percent reduction.
"Most of our routes travel through the downtown Seattle core, so our drivers have many safety concerns," said Atlantic Base Supervisor Sue Kattar. "I think we've been able to consistently reduce our collisions because our base safety team has worked very hard to promote awareness of safety issues and reinforce the driving skills that our operators learned during their training period."
