Metro VanShare Connector

Qualify

Anyone can join a VanShare connector van as a rider. For a new VanShare connector van you'll need:

  • A least three people, or as many as 15, to organize a VanShare group.
  • At least one Metro-approved driver. Volunteer drivers need to be at least 21 years-old with a current Washington State driver’s license and a good driving record for the past three years.

Description

VanShare connector vans can bridge transportation gaps in your commute trips. Those gaps that are keeping you from taking the bus, train, ferry or meeting up with a vanpool, like:

  • From home to the Park & Ride lot, train or ferry.
  • From the bus, train or ferry to work or school.

Metro provides the comfortable van and everything else for successful vansharing: van maintenance, insurance and Ridematch service.

VanShare is currently a grant-supported program with minimal fee. This cost is split among the vansharers; fuel cost is also shared.

Steps to forming a VanShare connector van:

  • Find VanShare partners by calling Metro for Ridematch Service or visit RideshareOnline.com to get a free list of interested people in your area. Post notices at work, school or nearby business and community centers. Talk with your residential transportation coordinator and the transportation coordinator at work.
  • Contact Metro’s VanShare Program for assistance and applications to get you started. Metro will also establish parking arrangement for the van at its’ staging point (Park & Ride lot, near ferry dock, or rail station area).
  • Complete the driver application. Once your VanShare is approved an appointment will be set up to give you your van.
