On-Demand Bike eLockers
Metro transit facilities now offer safe, secure and enclosed on-demand eLockers at the low rental rate of only $0.05 an hour. There is a growing number of eLocker locations in King County.
These new bike eLockers are available to anyone with a BikeLink™ stored-value card on a first-come, first-served basis. Cyclists simply purchase an access card online from bikelink.org and then use any available eLocker within the BikeLink™ system (including those in other counties and states).
The rental cost for an eLocker is only $0.05 per hour with the cost being deducted from their pre-paid stored-value card. On-demand eLockers are able to serve five to seven times the number of users as the regular, assigned bike lockers can, while offering greater flexibility. Cyclists pay for only the time they use the eLocker.
How to use the eLockers
- Sign up by going to the BikeLink™ website or calling 888-540-0546 and buying a $20.00 stored-value card.
- To park your bike, find an empty eLocker and insert your stored-value card firmly in the reader on the eLocker’s door. eLockers are accessible 24 hours a day and you can use your stored-value card at any BikeLink™ facility nationwide.
- Select the duration of time your bike will be parked in the eLocker.
- Remove your stored-value card and the eLocker door will open.
- Put your bike inside the eLocker, making sure the door closes securely after putting your bike inside.
- $0.05 per hour will be automatically debited from your BikeLink™ stored-value card. You will only be charged for the amount of time you are using the eLocker. If the meter expires before you retrieve your bike, extra time will be deducted from your stored-value card at the rate of $0.12 per hour.
- You can rent an eLocker for up to 10 consecutive days at a time. If you leave your bike longer than 14 days, however, the bike is considered abandoned and will be removed.
- Add additional money to your stored-value card by going to the BikeLink Website, calling 888-540-0546.

Buy a stored-value card online from BikeLinkTM or call 1-888-540-0546 and choose option 1 to purchase a stored-value card over the phone.
BikeLink™ stored-value cards cost $20 and have $20 of rental value stored on them. The stored-value card never expires. There are no membership fees or other ongoing costs aside from the hourly rental charge.
Rental rates are typically $0.05 per hour. The rental fee is deducted from your BikeLink™ stored-value card. If you go over your time, additional hours will be charged at the rate of $0.12 per hour.
While the value on the stored-value card never expires, if you lose your stored-value card the value is lost. We cannot transfer or refund value from a lost stored-value card.
You can buy a stored-value card online or over the telephone using a Visa, MasterCard or debit card.
You will still be able to end the rental and get your bike, but your stored-value card will be zeroed out and you will be unable to start a new rental until you add value.
Yes. You can purchase a unique code which will allow you to add value onto your stored-value card the next time you are at an eLocker. You can also purchase additional value by calling 1-888-540-0546.
The maximum rental duration is ten days. If the bike is left longer than 14 days, it may be considered abandoned and removed from the eLocker.
You can report a stored-value card as lost online using this form or by calling BikeLink™. While the value on the stored-value card never expires, if you lose your stored-value card the value is also lost. The value is stored on the stored-value card itself, not on a network. This helps to keep prices low.
If you lose your stored-value card when your bike is in an eLocker, BikeLink™ can provide you a one-time use card with which to retrieve your bike. This card can be sent by mail.
If you find that BikeLink™ is not right for you, you may return your stored-value card for a full refund within 30 days of your purchase, provided the stored-value card is in like-new condition. Contact the BikeLink™ main office for return authorization. BikeLink™ is not able to offer refunds on stored-value cards beyond 30 days of purchase, or for stored-value cards no longer in like-new condition.
No. Once an add value code has been issued, it cannot be taken back.
Unfortunately, the value on a lost or mechanically damaged stored-value card cannot be refunded. Your BikeLink™ stored-value card is like cash. The value is stored on the stored-value card itself, not on a network. Therefore, it is not possible to have value on a stored-value card refunded if you lose it or damage it.
Bending a stored-value card too much can invisibly damage the electronics. We do not recommend keeping your stored-value card in your wallet if you sit on it.
All eLocker parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. You can see how many parking spaces are installed at each location by checking the bike eLockers park and ride page.
Each stored-value card can only park one bike at a time. If you need to park more than one bike at a time, you will need more than one stored-value card.
Yes! BikeLink™ is an inter-agency network. This means your BikeLink™ stored-value card will work at BikeLink™ facilities provided by transit agencies and in different regions.
If you let the meter expire you are charged a higher rate of $0.12 per hour for the additional time.
Because the value is stored only on your stored-value card, we do not have a way to check the balance remotely. The value on your stored-value card is displayed whenever you start or end a rental. At an eLocker, you can also press and hold the button while inserting your stored-value card to view your balance.
The button on the eLocker allows you to scroll through letters A-Z and then 0-9. Once you stop at a letter or number, the cursor will move to the next space automatically after a few seconds.
Note that the screen used to enter an Add Value code is accessed by pressing the button twice BEFORE you insert your stored-value card.
If your bike is parked inside the eLocker, end the rental, retrieve your item, close the door and start a new rental. If you do not start a new rental, anyone with a BikeLink™ stored-value card could open the eLocker.
If your bike is no longer in the eLocker, start a rental, retrieve your item, close the door and end the rental. If you do not end the rental, others will not be able to use the eLocker and you will not be able to use your stored-value card at another eLocker until you end the rental.
